moonlighting as a behind-the-scenes rock roll guru
the son of a preacher man (my pastor at free indeed), JO JAMEZ has got some serious soul!
i've been pouring through GIMP tutorials, design sites and whatnot for knowledge and inspiration. it's quite honestly become more than an obsession. i feel like this could be exactly what i was meant to do. i feel like this could be my career.
i'm to the point of almost needing to go to school--because i want to be on the front line of technology for learning design techniques.
dang it!

in the company of: apologetix
this was absolutely AMAZING. three years in the making, the boys were finally able to jam in california. the new twin guitar attack of tom tincha and tom milnes (dubbed affectionately as 'tnt') was completely phenomenal. they really got the chance to show off their classic rock chops. tincha's solo before "he really got mad" was insanely original yet hauntingly not unlike eddie van halen. bill hubauer was missed but is currently on a project for his other band, ten till. they've got some cool, creepy promo videos that are very reminiscent of m. night shyamalan's signs. i don't know what it's all about yet, but if you have a facebook and become a fan, you get 2 free singles off of the upcoming 'project mayhem' cd. i'll listen to them as soon as i get a free opportunity.
we got about 20 people from the church to attend the show. that really made me feel like i was finally getting to share the experience that i've been raving about for years. in case you didn't know, it ain't cool to be "in the know" about something if you are the only one that knows what the hell you're talking about!
cathy and i hung around for a good long while after the show and talked with the guys and touched base with them a bit. our favorite facebook friend--eve tanner (jimmy's wife) gave us a really sweet chat. i talked with j., tom milnes and jimmy 'vegas' tanner on our upcoming endeavor to host a radio web site for apologetix's music. they are very receptive to the idea and i look forward to getting that done within the next year or so.
the night was polished off by an appearance of the actual de lorian used for the back to the future II movie.
the owner is a fan of the band and was a guest bass player for a song. who can beat that for a bargaining chip? "i'll buy you guys dinner and we can hang..." "oh yeah? i've got a freakin' de lorian. i think i'll play in your band!!" end of story.
to top it all off, cathy and i gobbled up the leftover pizza from the pizza kiln. super gourmet pizza at almost discount prices.
in the history of my life--that was one of the best days i've ever had, short of getting married or going on vacation to santa barbara some years back. even now, i can just lay back and breathe it all in and slowly let go--like one of your grandmother's whimsical fantastic sunday dinners that made the men unbutton their pants while watching the game afterward. that's what i'm talkin' about.

i have let you down, wil wheaton!
in fact--as i'm writing this right now...i'm hearing his calm, gentle voice scrawl the words i type over this blog. isn't that just a little koo-koo?
i wrote that to say this: i really should not let this blogging thing die. if only for the wil wheaton that lives inside my head.
well for now...
[in the remotely impossible chance that you are wil wheaton and you are *ahem* reading this--i am not crazy, just a real fan who was profoundly touched by your book and career. p.s. what do think about joomla? ever think about making the switch?]

what the...
for the past couple of days, things had started to mellow out as far my insomnia issues are concerned. cathy and i took some time and drove out to oceanside with our friend, pam. the trip was actually to exchange some RAM at the geekstore, but when you bring friends it's always gonna wind up a decent time. we even went to ruby's in carlsbad (happy hour milkshakes, y'all!!). i ordered the chili size with endless fries and it was super good. while i was wholly pleased with my chocolate malt (for only 3 frickin' dollars!), our friend pam had me sample her peanut butter cup milkshake--it was like a flavor bomb went off in my mouth. i wouldn't cop to her having the best one, but here it is in writing. pam's was WAY better. there.
that's all i got for now, maybe if i start thinking about it--i'll start making this blog endeavor multimedia with fanciful pictures from my ridiculously glamorous lifestyle. uh yeah, right...

stop this rollacoaster, peez!
this is really bothering me. i've always been a night owl, and have never been an insomniac for any real length of time. and i know that if i just go to sleep before 3am that everything would be reasonably ironed out from that point. i just do not go to bed. what the hell is wrong with me? i literally feel like a morlock (check wikipedia, trust me).
i really need to quit it.
oh yeah...it's bedtime.
